Mr. Tarique Afzal joined AB Bank in 2018 as Deputy Managing Director – Head of Corporate, Legal & Regulatory Affairs. Subsequently he has been appointed as the President & Managing Director with effect from July 08, 2019.

Prior to joining AB Bank he was the Chief Executive Officer of Sonali Polaris Financial Technology Limited a joint venture of Sonali Bank and Polaris, India.

Mr. Tarique Afzal, to his credit, has impressive overseas work experiences and worked in London during the late 1980s and in Credit Union in Canada, later served in ANZ Grindlays Bank and Standard Chartered Bank in Bangladesh.

He also worked in Bank Alfalah, BRAC Bank and served as the CEO for Dun & Bradstreet Rating Agency in Bangladesh.

His core competencies are creating new business streams, operational efficiency, performance improvements and regulatory relationships

Mohammed Shams-Ul Islam, recently joined Agrani Bank Ltd as its managing director and CEO, the bank said in a statement yesterday.

Prior to the joining, he was serving as managing director of Ansar -VDP Unnayan Bank.

Islam was general manager and DMD of Agrani Bank earlier. He had been the CEO and director of Agrani Exchange House (private) Ltd, Singapore forseven years, the statement added

He stared his banking career with Agrani Bank as senior officer (financial analyst) in 1984.

Banker Mr Farman R Chowdhury has been renewed as the managing director & CEO of Al-Arafah Islami Bank Limited for the 2nd term from 01 October 2021 for the next 4 years.

He has been serving as the managing director and CEO of the bank since 1 October 2018, reads a press release.

Prior to his joining he was the managing director & CEO of Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited and ONE Bank Limited and served there for 5 and 6 years respectively.

Mr Chowdhury, attained an MBA from IBA, Dhaka University, started his banking career in October 1986 as a management trainee in American Express Bank and served there for 12 years in various capacities.

He carries with him vast experience in banking operation especially in Credit and Marketing.

He received trainings in Banking and Finance at home and abroad and attended many seminars, workshops and symposiums relating to Banking and Finance during his long career.

Mr. Md. Tajul Islam joined as the Managing Director and CEO of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited (BCBL) on 13th March, 2022. Prior to his joining in BCBL, he was the Managing Director of the state-owned Karmasangsthan Bank, Deputy Managing Director of Janata Bank Ltd. and Additional Managing Director of Social Islami Bank Ltd. He started his banking career in 1988 as a Senior Officer at Janata Bank after obtaining Bachelor’s (Honors) and Master’s degrees in Public Administration from Chittagong University. In his academic career, he secured places in the merit list of all examinations. During his tenure of service at Janata Bank Ltd, he served as manager of different branches both at home & abroad for about 23 years and 6 years as General Manager and Deputy Managing Director. In this journey, he visited the UAE, Singapore, Philippines, and India to participate in various workshops, seminars, & trainings. Beside his professional life Mr. Tajul Islam keeps himself engaged with various social activities through numbers of organizations.

He is a life member of Chittagong University Alumni Association, Chittagong University Public Administration Alumni Association, Chittagong University Students Association Batch-83, Sitakunda Samity, Chattogram and Institute of Bankers Bangladesh. Mr. Md. Tajul Islam was born on 20 June 1962 in Banshbaria village under Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district.

Veteran banker Md. Ismail Hossain joined Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) as Managing Director on December 22, 2021. Prior to his joining BKB, he was the Managing Director of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB). He joined Janata Bank Ltd as Senior Officer in 1985.

Mr. Ismail Completed his Post Graduation Degree from Chittagong University in Public Administration. He worked as Deputy Managing Director in Janata Bank Ltd before his joining RAKUB. At different stages of his service life in Janata Bank Ltd, he performed as Chief Executive (General Manager) at UAE operation, Area Chief and branch heads. He took part in different banking related training, Seminar and symposium held at home and abroad.

He came of an aristocratic family of Someshpur village under Belkuchi Upazila of Sirajganj district.

Bangladesh Development Bank Ltd. (BDBL) was incorporated on 16 November, 2009 as a Public Company Limited by shares under the Companies Act, 1994 by amalgamation of former Bangladesh Shilpa Bank (BSB) and Bangladesh Shilpa Rin Sangstha (BSRS), two Development Financial Institutions (DFIs) in the public sector.

Bangladesh Shilpa Bank (BSB) was established on October 31, 1972 for accelerating the industrial pace of the country through providing loan and equity to the industrial projects as per Bangladesh Shilpa Bank Order, 1972 (President’s Order No. 129 of 1972).

With the same objective, Bangladesh Shilpa Rin Sangstha (BSRS) was also established on October 31, 1972 as per Bangladesh Shilpa Rin Sangstha Order, 1972 (President’s Order No. 128 of 1972).

In order to carry on business of BDBL, Bangladesh Bank issued banking licence on 19-11-2009.

Two Vendors’ Agreements were signed between the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the BDBL on 31 December, 2009 to acquire and take-over all of their (BSB & BSRS) assets, benefits, rights, powers, authorities, privileges, liabilities, borrowings and obligations and to carry on with the same business.

As a Public Limited Company, BDBL formally embarked its journey on January 03, 2010. It extends financial assistance for setting up industries and provides all kinds of commercial banking services to its customers through its branch network in Bangladesh.

Mr. Selim R. F. Hussain joined BRAC Bank Limited as the Managing Director & CEO on November 8, 2015. Mr. Hussain is a career banker and an immediate past CEO & Managing Director of IDLC Finance Limited who is widely recognized and highly acclaimed across the financial sector for being the architect of IDLC Finance’s meteoric rise over the past six years. He was also the Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2010 to 2012 of IDLC Finance’s two subsidiaries – IDLC Investments Limited and IDLC Securities Limited.
Mr. Hussain has an Honours degree in Accounting from Dhaka University and an MBA (Major in Finance) from the Institute of Business Administration, also from Dhaka University. He worked in various roles with the two largest multi-national banks in Bangladesh, ANZ Grindlays Bank and Standard Chartered Bank, for twenty four years, before moving to the IDLC Group in 2010. He has resided and worked in India and Australia for significant periods of his career and, prior to taking over the helm at IDLC Finance Limited, was the Head of Finance & Strategy for Standard Chartered Bank’s Consumer Banking Division in Mumbai, India. Mr. Hussain was also CFO for Standard Chartered Bank, Bangladesh, from 2002 to 2007. Hussain was also a Director at the Credit Rating Agency of Bangladesh (CRAB) and the Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Leasing & Finance Co Association (BLFCA) since 2012.
Hussain is married with one son and aside from enjoying reading and traveling, he is a keen cricket and football enthusiast.
